ISTE Coaching Standards (2014)
It makes sense to me that Visionary Leadership is the first of the ISTE Coaching Standards. Elements of leadership are woven throughout the Standards and we have examined leadership in a myriad of forms in the Digital Education Leadership program at Seattle Pacific University.
Leadership can include anything from listening closely to another teacher in a peer coaching relationship to ensuring that all students in a district have access to digital tools and subjects. It can mean designing technology-focused professional development that reflects both the goals of the district and the needs of teachers and students.
Like most effective leaders, the best coaches find and develop strengths within the people they work with and connect those strengths to the vision and goals of the organization.
